I was a born again Fundamentalist Christian for seventeen years...went to church, Bible studies, and Sunday School four times a week during those years. I know where you're coming from, but since I'm a "Free Spirit" now, I disagree with the label "bad book".

Dear friends,

Sermon: Change Your World

Verse: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill that cannot be hidden.” Matt 5:14

On Wednesday, September 28, My youth Pastor, Joe, let me preach my first sermon. I was exciting, yet nerving. I definently realized what the bible verse, “The flesh is weak, but the spirit is willing” means. Sometimes, in the flesh, you just want to give up. The spirit, on the other, wants to keep going, it wants to persist. Where the flesh may crumble, the spirit stands. Anyways, toward the beginning of the sermon, I was pretty nervous. Once I got the flow of things, I started getting more comfortable. My youth pastor, awesome person! I have been asking him to preach for at least a year now. We finally talked on the phone, and he said I could start preaching to the 7th and 8th graders. After a year of waiting, I think I finally understand that my pastor just wanted to see how serious I was about preaching. Pastor Joe said that a good first-sermon is about 20 minutes. By accident, I went over by 5-10 minutes and ended up preaching for around 25 to 30 minutes, and I spoke to between 20-40 teens. I’ve gotten so much support from my family, friends, and my church, and Pastor Joe, and I’d just like to thank them very much. I have to admit, when I was asking my youth pastor, I was getting a bit discouraged. My family, friends, and people from church told me to keep being persistent and show him that you want to preach. I want to thank them. I want to also thank my youth pastor for giving me the opportunity to do this. My parents, my youth pastor, a few teens, and even the Southern new England district youth director of the Assemblies of God, Pastor Tim, who drove at least 50 minutes to see “what God has done” in my life, said that I did a good job.

A few quotes for inspiration:

“You can never change the world, when your living just like it”

“When satan reminds you of your past, just remind him of

him of his future”

“Your enemies might be big, but God is extra-large and in charge”

“If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it”

A few things I need to work on: More emphasis, make eye contact, add more excitement to my sermons.

Im very excited to see what is going to happen now. I pray that I will get a lot more opportunities to preach, and to speak in front of people. If you don’t practice that, you’ll eventually end up loosing it, or getting more nervous
